PONTIANAK
Pontianak is a type of a female vampire in malay forklore. Pontianaks are women who died an unnatural death during childbirth and becomes a type of vampire demon who comes back to seek revenge or terrorize people.
Pontianaks will usually make sounds of a baby crying or take the form of a young lady dressed in a long white nighty or dress to scare or sometimes kill those unfortunate ones who goes near.. the reason why it takes the form of a young lady is to attract it's victims, usually men.. but it's also said that a pontianak's breast is behind her back. therefore if a women is present (human) and if she lifts her shirt/blouse to show her breast the pontianak would runaway as it feels ashame. pontianaks do not put their feet on the ground. no one really knows, but this is the most common reason why: the ground which we walk on is considered blessed and sacret. the Pontianak is a cursed and condamn entity. therefore they are forbidden to set foot on the ground. it's also said that if they do they would be burned.
the presence of a pontianak can sometimes be accompanied with a flower scent.. and followed by a rotting stench.
it is also believed that if the cries of the pontianak are loud, it means it's usually far, but if it's soft.. it means it's very near.. and if a dog s howls.. (well most believe that animals have ESP) it means the pontianak is far, but if it starts whinning it could also mean it's near.
It's said that Pontianaks would rip out the internal organs of the victims by piercing through their stomachs with their long fingernails and eating the organ. that's how they are believed to survived.. if a pontianak want's to seek revenge on a particular male it would rip out the sex organ of it's victim.
they say that you can prevent a pontianak's attack if you have a sharp metal object like a nail. they also believe that if you plunge a nail into the back of the pontianak's neck that would turn them into a beautiful young woman until the nail is pulled out.
a pontianak is usually associated with a banana tree. they believe that a banana tree is home to the pontianak. they claim that if you tie a red thread around the tree and the other end around your toe. you would be visited by the pontianak at night to do her sexual favours in return for a wish or a request. (this is highly not recomended !!! )
could all of this information be true? why hasn't there been any reported cases of any grusome pontianak attacks?
could it be just a forklore made up by malay housewives during the olden days to scare their husband, so they won't engage in any casaul sexual encounter along the roads at night?
well, in my several encounters with pontianaks during my random escapades.. some of whatever that is mentioned could be true, the sound of a baby crying, a young women in white long dress and long fingernails with a flower smell near a banana tree or vine tree swinging above and calling out my name distingtively is something i have encountered several times.. i also realise that when i have such encounters there's always some old trees with hanging vines, or a banana tree it's usually is densed places with more vegitation and non urban areas like descreet parks, railways deserted areas and places with not much human traffics.. old abandoned areas could also house this entities that we call pontianaks. it just goes to show.. we are never really alone!! be weary of where you are and the one you meet on a lonely deserted street at night.. for it may just be your last night's ride!!..
PANANGGAL
A PANANGGAL, which means "to remove" is another type of female vampire who is said to have made a pack with the devil in return for supernatural powers or to stay beautiful forever. which is actually is more of a curse... the Pananggal is like any ordinary woman by day, but by night.. it becomes a vampire demon.
Pananggal has the capability to remove it's head and fly around, when it's head is deteched, the stomach and entrail would dangle from the head, leaving the headless body like and empty shell, it's said that a Pananggal can only fly at night and it has to return before sunrise. it us it's believed that the pananggal would set on the roof houses, when women are in labour. it screeches when the baby is being born. they also say that the pananggal would insert it's long invisible tongue to lick up the blood of the new mother. if the pananggal is not successful in it's hunt, whosoever that brushes on it's long intestines would suffer open sore's that cannot healed without a bomoh's(witch doctor) help!
it's said that the Pananggal feeds on human blood or flesh, although some believes suggest that the pananggal prefers the blood of a new born, the blood of a woman who has recently gave birth or the placenta, which the pananggal would consume after it's being buried, it is also said that that the Pananggal would fly to scout the lands for it.
it's traditionally believed that thorny leaves(mengkuang) which would injure the stomach and intestines of the pananggal when looking for it's prey..
they say that a pananggal is afraid of scissors or beatle nut leaf , the panaggal would never make eye contact when she is in total human form, and another way to identify a pananggal, they oddly have a strong smell of vinegar..
in my experience as a paranormal investigator i had never come across a pananggal or any reported cases of it.. although it may be a forklore in malaysia.. you would never know how true this tale can be.. so beware of any beautiful looking lady who smell like venigar.. especially if you have a pregnant woman in your household..
